Our club was chartered in 1975, meaning that for almost 4 decades members have served the community.
We meet of a lunch time on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month.
This provides an opportunity for people, who find attending evening meetings difficult, to become part of the Lions family.
Our projects generate the funds we use to support Lions Foundations and activities nationally and internationally but we are most concerned with supporting worthy causes in our own local community.
For example, our club allocated funds to provide hampers to the people impacted by the Forcett-Connellys Marsh-Dunalley - Murdunna fires in Jan.Members also took on the task of regularly preparing and serving an evening meal for the Blaze Aid volunteers who were repairing fencing after the fires.
The club also purchased a bar code
reader for a visually impaired couple.
The reader identifies tinned and packaged food items for the couple.
Without the reader, identifying vastly different items (in many cases they come in identical packaging) was extremely difficult.
Our members have for many years
assisted in the annual Relay for Life by preparing the candle kits and selling
them on the day.
This year also saw us working with Autism Tasmania to create an enjoyable Family Fun Day.
You might also have seen our members working on the gates at the Royal Hobart Show & the races at Tattersalls Park.
Our club collects used stamps from businesses who kindly keep them from their incoming mail. These are trimmed and sold to dealers and the proceeds support The Childrens Mobility Fund.
There really is something for everyone to get involved in and with another couple of hands we could do even more.
